Tattoos

There is a widespread epidemic of tattoos on the bodies of both men and women in today’s world. But are not tattoos a sign of pride if  they are displayed to be seen by others? And does not God hate such vanity? The Bible says, not once but twice, that God resists the proud (James 4:6, 1 Pet. 5:5). The Bible speaks of those who are vain in their thinking and who follow the ways of the world (Eph. 4:17-18). The world, as we know it, will someday cease to exist, and all those who follow its ways will find themselves on the wrong side of eternity.

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. – 1 John 2:15-17

Tattoos may be fashionable now but a time is coming when those who have them will wish they didn’t. The time when sin will give way to judgment is drawing closer every day, and God is still waiting to see if anyone regrets the life that he or she is living and wishes to be free from the bondage of sin. The Bible says that God’s mercy lasts forever, but this does not mean that we can take advantage of His mercy and go on in the vanity of our minds and escape His judgment. God knows exactly what time it is in your life. You may come to Jesus now, but the Bible does not guarantee that you can find Jesus tomorrow.

Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation. – 2 Corinthians 6:2

Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. – Hebrews 3:15

Don’t resist God if He is speaking to your  heart right now. Vain tattoos are sinful, but God will forgive this sin through His Son Jesus Christ. He will forgive all your sins if you really want Him to.

Christians should not get tattooed. The Bible makes it clear that Christians are to glorify God in both body and spirit. Christians must not follow the vain fashions of the world. They must instead follow Jesus.

For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s. – 1 Corinthians 6:20
